Deadeye
Take the edge off late closeouts
Deadeye helps your jumper against late closeouts and defenders contesting from the side. Higher tiers reduce more pressure at release and make side contests fade sooner.

Less pressure at release
On qualifying jumpers, Gold cuts pressure at release by 18%; Legend cuts it by 40%.
A stronger answer to side contests
A defender directly beside you is at 90°. Gold leaves 13.3% of their head-on angle strength, compared with 43.3% without Deadeye.
Create space before the shot
Deadeye is best suited to a closeout that arrives late. A defender already crowding your jumper can stop the release bonus from activating.

What changes at every level
| Tier | Pressure reduction at release | Side-angle fade begins → ends | Angle strength from the side (90°) |

| None | 0% | 73° → 103° | 43.3% |

The last column puts the defender directly beside you. A defender straight in front has 100% angle strength; lower values mean their angle contributes less to the contest. These are not the contest percentages shown in shot feedback or make rates.
01 / Deadeye
How much pressure Deadeye takes away
When a closeout reaches a qualifying jumper, Deadeye reduces the pressure at release. Each badge upgrade takes away more of that pressure.
The chart compares the same pressure at release across all tiers. A contest that was already there when you started the shot still matters.
Release pressure remaining
The same closeout pressure at release starts at 100% without Deadeye. Compare how much remains at each tier; lower is better for the shooter.

Why side contests lose strength
Picture a defender between you and the basket: that is 0°, directly in front. Move them around to your left or right side and that is 90°. The percentage shows how much of their angle-based pressure remains compared with standing straight in front of you.
At 90°, the angle strength is 43.3% with no Deadeye, 13.3% with Gold and 0% with Legend. Gold’s 13.3% does not mean the shot feedback will show a 13.3% contest: defender distance and the other contest factors still count.
With Gold, the angle effect starts fading at 64° and reaches zero at 94°. Legend moves those points to 58° and 88°. A defender directly in front keeps the full angle effect.
Try different badge tiers and closeout angles in the court diagram. How close the defender gets to you still matters.
Move the defender. See the difference.
Pick a badge tier and move the defender around the shooter. Watch where the angle contest starts to fade.

Each line follows a badge tier as the defender moves from in front of you toward your side. It shows how much of the angle effect remains.

03 / Deadeye
When Deadeye applies
The release bonus needs a qualifying jumper with pressure as you let go of the ball. Standing jumpers, pullups, stepbacks and post fades can qualify. Layups, floaters, hooks and heaves do not get this bonus.
Create separation before you start your jumper. Too much pressure at the start can prevent the release bonus, even if you have a high Deadeye tier.
The side-angle effect works separately: it does not need the same clear start as the release bonus.
BUILD DECISIONS
Deadeye and shooting attributes do different jobs
Your Mid-Range Shot and Three-Point Shot ratings set your shooting ability. Deadeye helps you handle defensive pressure on qualifying jumpers; it does not add points to those ratings.
Choose Deadeye for shots taken through late or side contests. For clean looks, put the shooting rating and your release timing first. There is no fixed conversion from one Deadeye tier to a number of attribute points.
PUTTING IT INTO PRACTICE
How to use Deadeye
Use it for late closeouts
Get space before the gather, then let Deadeye reduce the pressure that arrives during the shot.
Value the angle as well as the tier
Deadeye’s angle effect helps against a defender approaching from the side. It does not weaken the angle of a closeout coming straight at you.
Higher tiers strengthen both effects
Every upgrade cuts more pressure at release on qualifying jumpers and makes the side-angle effect fade sooner. Pick the tier around the contested shots you actually take.
